It has been known that a nuclear-polyhedrosis virus is inactivated in vitro by the gut-juice of silkworm larva. The present study dealt with some characteristics of antiviral activity of the gut-juice collected from various silkworm strains.<br>The antiviral activity of the gut juice obtained from the 5 th-instar larva was higher than that of the 4 th-instar larva. As for the same instar larvae, larva at a late stage showed much higher antiviral activity of the gut-juice than larva at an early stage. Although the activity of the gut-juice was varied with silkworm strains and seasons of larval rearing, the gut-juice obtained from larvae of spring rearing showed the highest activity. The activities of the gut-juice obtained from F1 hybrids were much higher, in general, than those from their parental inbred strains, backcrossed hybrids, and F2 hybrids.<br>No change of the activity was detected in the gut-juice which had been stocked at -20°C for 1.5 years.
