Abstract
In the present study, roles of follicle cell and oocyte in the formation of vitelline membrane of the silkworm, Bombyx-mori, were investigated by way of electron microscope observation with the following results. The vielline membrane consisted with several layers of membrane. The membrane formation seemed to be basically took place by zona pellucida with granules, as material, which were secreted from follicle cells. On the other hand, no external secretion from oocyte was significantly observed at any stage of egg membrane deposition, indicating oocyte has a minor role, if any, in the fomation of vitelline membrane.
