The effect of the thermal and methanol treatments on the thermal properties of the cocoon shell were studied by the determination the changes of density, weight loss, sericin solubility, and DTA curve.<br>1. The density of the thermal or methanol treated cocoon shell increased as compared with untreated one.<br>2. The sericin solubility of the treated cocoon shell decreased as compared with untreated one.<br>3. The temperature of the decompotition of treated cocoon shell increased as compared with untreated one.<br>4. The results indicate that both fibroin and sericin in the cocoon shell are crystallized in a part by the thermal or methanol treatment.
