Description

The recessive mutant “flimsy cocoon” (symbol flc) was discovered as a spontaneous occurrence. It is characterized by spinning of distinctly thin-shelled cocoon. Silkgland of mature flc larva, especially its middle part, was notably deformed due to smaller amounts of silk proteins, both fibroin and sericin, being synthesized and stored therein. In flc cocoon, the amount of fibroin per cocoon was less than 40per cent of that of normal one while the amount of sericin was about 70per cent.<br>Linkage tests involving Ze, sm and flc showed the flc locus to be on the third chromosome at 49.0 position.
