Abstract

The concentration of α-ketoglutaric acid (α-KG) in the haemolymph of 17 silkworm races belonging to 4 geographical races was measured.<br>The constant level of α-KG concentration in the haemolymph of 5th-instar larvae differed in each race and the race difference did not vary according to the rearing season. The races having high concentrations of α-KG in the haemolymph were 610, Annam, Tanegashima and 010, and those with low concentrations were Daizo, Ringetsu, Var and J-124. However, there was no marked difference in α-KG concentration between 4 geographical races. In each race, the seasonal change of α-KG concentration in the haemolymph was related to that of the cocoon shell weight.
