Some times, cocoon threads (baves) are reeled with high reeling tensions owing to the presence of a few unsuitable Nimayus (boiled cocoons) among the reeling grains or to other undesirable state in the reeling basin (e. g., baves are entagled by a part of apparatus).
The assembly of baves and mechanical properties of the raw silk mentioned above (unusual state) were examined in comparison with the raw silk reeled in the ordinary state, and the results obtained were as follows:
1. The observation of the cross-section of raw silk showed that baves reeled from suitable Nimayus tended to roll up baves of high reeling tension.
2. The raw silk reeled with an unusually high reeling tension showed a large breaking strength (g/d), a small elongation (%), a large apparent density and a small decrease in deniers by stretching, in comparison to the raw silk reeled with the ordinary reeling tension.
3. The area and diameter of cross-section of raw silk decreased with the increase in the elongation by stretching, and those of raw silk reeled with the unusually high tension were smaller than those reeled with the ordinary tension.
It was proved from those results that the unusually high reeling tension gave rise to a dense arrangement and tight cohesion of baves in the structure of raw silk.
