説明

The deposited states of stannic acid gels (SnO2·H2O) in tin-weighted fibers were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The results obtained are as follows:
1. The crystallinity and the sizes of crystallites of stannic acid gels had obvious differences due to the minute difference in conditions of crystallization.
2. When the stannic acid gels were ignited at about 1000°C, the crystallinity of the stannic oxide increased and the sizes of their crystallites particles became bigger. From the experimental result of DTA the increase of crystallinity was recognized. The reason is that the hygroscopic water of stannic acid gels was evaporated by ignition during the measurement by DTA method.
3. In the case of the lower ratio of tin-weighting, the sizes of stannic acid gel particles deposited in silk fibers were uniform, that is, 33Å as well as those of wool and wild silk with their sizes about 37Å and 50Å, respectively. In the higher ratio of tin-weighting, the sizes of stannic acid gel particles deposited in fibers were larger.
4. It is clear that the stannic acid gels in tin-weighted silk fibers were not combined chemically with silk fibroin, because the result was that the plotting of the logarithm of scattering strength against the square of small angle scattering of copper chelated silk did not make a straight line, but tin-weighted silk showed a straight line.
5. The tin-weighted double oriented specimens of silk fibroin were studied by means of the small angle scattering of X-ray, and it was found that the stannic acid gels were not deposited between the pleated sheets in the crystalline region of silk, but deposited in the micro-voids of fibers.
