Gas chromatographic (GC) and colorimetric methods were developed for the determination of a new organophosphorus herbicide, O-ethyl O-(3-methyl-6-nitrophenyl) N-sec-butylphosphoroamidothioate (Cremart®) in technical preparations and formulations. Cremart could be determined by GC on a 2% silicone OV-225 column (3mm i. d. and 1m length) using di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate as an internal standard at a column temperature of 200°C.<br> Cremart was hydrolyzed in 2.5 N potassium hydroxide solution to 3-methyl-6-nitrophenol and the content of total 3-methyl-6-nitrophenol in Cremart sample was colorimetrically determined measuring the absorbance at 420 nm. The free 3-methyl-6-nitrophenol in Cremart sample was determined independently by colorimetrically before hydrolysis in 0.01% sodium carbonate solution. Then, the content of Cremart was calculated after subtracting the free 3-methyl-6-nitrophenol from the total 3-methyl-6-nitrophenol.<br> The analytical values obtained by the two methods were in good agreement with each other within experimental errors.
