Description

In order to provide the necessary quality of prosthetic and orthotic services it is important that the personnel providing them have an adequate level of education and training. ISPO has, in close collaboration with the WHO, developed detailed education and training guidelines for the full professional allied to P & O. The philosophy and curricula are widely accepted by most international governmental and non-governmental agencies in the field. Upon request, ISPO evaluates and consults for prosthetics and orthotics schools and education programmes throughout the world. Kobe College of Medical Welfare Sanda Campus was certified as CategoryI in 2012, but the lack of clinical education in the Japanese P & O education system has been pointed out in this process. This paper is intended to clarify the problems of prosthetics and orthotics education in Japan compared with the international standards. From there, we propose a postgraduate education for Japanese prosthetists and orthotists to approach the global standards.
