抄録

Evapotranspiration of Phragmites communis plants was measured by the water balance method in the lysimeter of the fifth (1984) and sixth (1985) years after sowing P. communis seeds in July, 1980.<BR>The results obtained are as follows.<BR>1. The evapotranspiration of P. communis plants and evapotranspiration ratio from May to October, was about 900 mm and 1.4 respectively. These values for a bare soil plot from May to October, 1985, were about 450mm and 0.7 respectively.<BR>2. Soil moisture suction at a depth of 10-30 cm in a P. communis plot rose during the day and decreased gradually during the night. The ground-water level fell steeply during the day but gradually during the night.<BR>3. The average rate at which the ground-water level dropped in the P. communis plot from August 7 to 9, 1984, was 4.8cm/d. This rate in late July in a dense stand of Hachirogata Central Polder was essentially the same (4.7cm/d).<BR>4. Soil moisture suction during continuous drought in the P. communis plot was quite high in layers more than 20 cm below the ground surface, compared to that in the bare soil plot.<BR>5. The ground-water level in P. communis plot dropped much more than that in the bare soil plot, indicating the drying of the P. communis plot ground to proceed rapidly.
