Abstract

It is well known that plastic soil-cement is useful for slope protection. In this paper, engineering properties of plastic soils stabilized with cement?bentonite under certain conditions are described.
Details are given of a series of flow test, slaking test, unconfined compressive test, carried out on residual granitic soils stabilized with various percentages of cement-bentonite. The curing temperature was 30°C and the relative humidity was 75%.
The results are summarized as follows:
1) Flow values increased with increasing the percentage of cement and decreased with increasing the percentage of bentonite. It is found that using bentonite together with cement prevents the change of flow values.
2) After the short curing period under sealing condition, some specimens crumbled slightly by soaking them in water. However, when curing periods were over 72 hours, most of the specimens did not crumble by soaking them in water.
3) It is found that the unconfined compressive strength of the plastic stabilized soils increases considerably with using bentonite together with cement.
