Abstract
Nakano et al. (1992) have shown that natural the water contents to be attained if fully-softened to critical state in Tertiary mudstone landslide area are above competence factor Fc. It means that landslide slip surface locations is decided from vertical distribution of natural water content of boring core.
In order to estimate natural water contents in Tertiary-type landslide, the problems of neutron mistune well logging applying landslide investigation are reviewed and calibration method from counting rate to water content are discussed.
The response of a neutron gauge depends on the density, composition, and diameter of hole as well as water content of a stratum. As a result of studys, it was made clear that diameter of hole as well as water content of a stratum has a strong influence on counting rate. Using calibration cave of drilling diameter, counting rate can be changed into natural water content with some comparison of natural water contens of boring core.
Neutron moisture well logging technique was applied to the determination of slip surface locations in Tertiary-type landslide area in Chiba and Niigata Prefecture. Consequently, it seems possible to determine the location of landslide slip surface from the relationship between water contents by neutron moisture well logging and competence factor Fc proposed by Nakano et al. (1992).
