Abstract
We previously proposed a coefficient-wise intra prediction technique for DCT based image coding. In this technique, DCT coefficients are classied into low and high frequency components, and extrapolative and interpolative types of intra prediction are applied to the respective classes of the DCT coefficients. In this paper, we introduce a rate-distortion optimization method into the above classication process to obtain better coding performance.
