The minicomputer reads the gastric X-ray film of 35 mm size through FSS, detects contours of stomach, measures three symptomatic features, i. e., shortening of lesser curvature, deformity of gastric angle and irregularity of contrast at boundary, and judges the film to be normal or abnormal. Macro-to-micro two-step method is used for contour detection. Micro contour is represented by three iso-photometric intensity curves. Measured values of the symptomatic features are quantitized in three levels, i. e., 0 : normal, 1 doubt and 2 : abnormal. Assessment of the abnormality of the film is expressed by the sum of these quantities and used for the judgment.<BR>50 normal stomachs and 34 abnormal stomachs were used for the expeiriment. False positive and negative rates of the computer were 40% and 6% respectively, while those of a radiologist were 17% and 3%.
