Abstract
This paper investigated the information sources used by public librarians. Six prefectures in Kanto District were studied through questionnaires and the following results were obtained: Library staff who were qualified as librarians used more diverse information sources than those who were not qualified. Library staff who do not have sufficient experience preferred to acquire information from persons in the same local government or other local government librarians. The existence of information in the media and interlibrary loan activities influenced the information sources used by librarians. Training by the prefectural library or library association in the prefecture considerably affected the selection of information sources used by public librarians.
