Description

Tympanosclerosis characterized by calcareous deposits around the auditory ossicles. We examined the postoperative records of 44 patients with tympanosclerosis treated at our hospital. The results were as follows : · Tympanosclerosis should be diagnosed based on the findings obtained from computed tomography (CT), audiometry and eardrum examination. · We examined the records of 41 patients for whom follow-up studies on auditory acuity were performed for more than 6 months postoperatively. A successful resolution of the condition was achieved in 13 patients with IIIi, 15 patients with IIIc, and 3 patients with IVi, thereby showing an overall success rate of 76 %.
