Abstract

The methods used for the removal of harmful heavy metal cadmium from the waste caused by processing sea scallops were investigated to utilize this waste for fertilizer and livestock feed. We found that: (a)The Cd concentration in the waste could be reduced to below 0.56 ㎎/㎏/ N1%, by optimizing the chelating fiber concentration and the number of times it is used.(b)The ability of the chelating fiber to adsorb Cd was almost fully restored by treating it with 1.5 mol/L hydrochloric acid.(c)The chelating fiber was able to be used 30 times.(d)During the process of regenerating the used chelating fiber, the Cd concentration remaining in the supernatant could be reduced to 0.1 ppm(㎎/㎏)or less when waste liquid containing Cd was treated with eggshell adsorbent.
