Description
This study was conducted to examine the developmental differences of concept identification process of selection paradigm. A method of determining which hypotheses were sampled on each trial was devised and applied to children in fourth, sixth graders and junior college students. It was suggested (Furuhashi, 1977) that there were four cognitive subprocesses in concept identification task of selection paradigm, i.e., coding, recoding, memory and response selection. The purpose of this study was to find which, if any, of these processes are related to developmental level. The major findings were as follows:(a) Most subjects formulated and used hypotheses reliably as the subjects in the previous studies;(b) a developmental difference was found only in the memory process.
