Description

Nationwide "ECO-DRIVE(Green Driving) Contest 2007" was held by the Environmental Restration and Conservation Agency and Ministry of the Environment. 534 companies took part in the Contest and 14,449 vehicles were registered. Through the analysis of their fuel consumption, it was proven that the participants had reduced CO2 emissions by 1t-CO2/year/vehicle through 'ECO-DRIVE' activities. In addition, some facts about the management system were revealed. Generally, the PDCA(Plan-Do-Check-Action) cycle is applied to the establishment of an environmental management system. However, while most of the companies maintained strict control of fuel consumption(the 'D'), they didn't develop their in-house system enough(the 'P'). Moreover, a lot of companies didn't carry out an assessment and review of the management system(the 'C' and 'A'). This result indicates that the promotion of 'ECO-DRIVE' activities will make an important contribution to the reduction of CO2 emission in Japan.
