Abstract

In this paper, we propose a simplified method to estimate multi-spectral omni-directional image with fish-eye lens and RGB color camera. In order to estimate omni-directional multi-spectral distribution by any uncalibrated RGB camera, the information of the camera which is calibrated spectrally is reused. First, the reference camera is calibrated spectrally with spectral photometer and color chart. Second, omni-directional image and color chart are measured by the uncalibrated camera. The multi-spectral omni-directional image is estimated by converting a measurement image into the color space of the reference camera. Third, we propose a rendering method with Image Based Lighting (IBL) by using estimated multi-spectral distribution. To improve rendering performance, we make a multi-spectral irradiance map from the omni-directional scene illumination for GPU. Moreover, to render the object, we develop a calculation method of multi-spectral reflection based on multi-spectral omni-directional illumination distribution and Torrance-Sparrow model. Finally, in order to confirm accuracy of the estimation, we estimate the color signal under day light, incandescent lamp and fluorescent lamp. Then, we render a realistic image of an object under actual scene with IBL and confirm the validity of the proposed method visually.
