Abstract
For improvement of fuel consumption and the exhaust gas emission of automotive engines, the measurement of combustion conditions in the engine on the real vehicle tests are important as well as the engine test on the bench. In this study, we developed a portable combustion monitor system that can measure indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP) from plug washer type force sensor and ECU crank signal. As the result, we verified that IMEP can be measured with untoothed pulse and found a good correlation between equivalent IMEP from plug washer type force sensor and IMEP from ordinary pressure diagram.
