Description

Several tens of definitions for the ductile to brittle transition temperature (DBTT) have been proposed so far, corresponding to various test methods on toughness of steels. The correlations between those DBTTs estimated empirically are not satisfactory. The present paper points out an important role of carbon content through “strain toughening effect” in the correlations between DBTTs, especially between fracture toughness and Charpy impact toughness.
