Abstract

In this study, the Box-Cox model, which automatically seeks the function type between dependent variable and independent variables, is applied to the estimation of freight transport generation/attraction. Freight transport generation and attraction are estimated separately. From the estimation result, it is found that Box-Cox model estimates is more precise than that of linear regression model. It is also found that the Box-Cox parameter that identifies the function type is varies from goods to goods, but is almost the same in freight transport generation and attraction if characteristics of goods are the same.
