Abstract

<p>Researchers have evidenced that performance intelligence quotient (PIQ) is higher than verbal IQ (VIQ) in antisocial populations using Wechsler's test series (P>V profile). The WISC-IV has discarded dual intelligence components, PIQ and VIQ; instead, both perceptual reasoning index (PRI) and verbal comprehension index (VCI) are placed. The aim of the present study was to examine the P>V profile of juvenile delinquents using the WISC-IV. Data were elicited from a child guidance center. Collected data of children were classified into three groups: 1) delinquents assessed using the WISC-III (Del-III, n=40), 2) delinquents assessed using the WISC-IV (Del-IV, n=40), and 3) non-delinquents assessed using the WISC-IV (Comparison, n=40). Two-way ANCOVA, adjusted for both age and IQ level as covariates, showed that Del-III group had the largest effect size on the P>V profile and was followed by Del-IV group. Comparison group had no significant difference between P and V. The author concludes that the WISC-IV have measurable power to detect the P>V profile in juvenile delinquents, although not so much as the WISC-III.</p>
