Description
The pH ranges for complete precipitation of copper group (Cu2+, Ag+ and Au3+) and tin group(As3+, Sn2+, Sb3+ and Bi3+) by tannic acid havebeen investigated. A quantitative precipitation was observed at pH 4.610.6 for Cu2+, for Ag+, and 4.29.5 for Au3+. The optimum pH ranges for those added with citric acid were 8.010.6 for Cu2+, 7.69.2 for Ag+, and 4.49.5 for Au3+. Also, quantitative precipitation ofthe following ions were possible at pH 7.08.2 for As3+, 1.79.4 for Sn2+, 2.59.8 for Sb3+, and >4.8 for Bi3+. By application of the differences of pH range for the quantitative precipitation, separations of each were made as follows: Sn and Bi at pH >11.4, Sb and Bi at >11.6, As and Bi at 4.55.0, and >9.5, As and Sb at3.05.0 and 9.29.8, and As and Sn at 1.84.8 and 9.29.6.
