説明

Extraction with ethyl acetate has been applied to the photometric determination of microgram quantities of gold in copper metal. After dissolving the sample in a mixture of HNO3 and HCl, gold in the solution is extracted into ethyl acetate, leaving copper in the aqueous layer. The ethyl acetate layer is then evaporated to dryness, and gold in the residue is determined by the photometric p-dimethylaminobenzylidenerhodanine method. Experiments using Au-198 and synthetic sample solutions indicate that gold in copper can be determined by this method within an accuracy of 10% in the range of 2 to 500 ppm. Three samples of copper metal were analyzed by this method with the results in good agreement with those by the standard fire assay and by other methods of analysis. The time required for a determination is approximately 3 to 4 hrs.
