Determination of acetyl groups in organic compounds by Wiesenberger's method has been investigated and found that many improvements were necessary. Dioxane was used as a solvent for sample and 50% sulfuric acid was used for saponification and driving off the acetic acid. Samples were weighed in required numbers of flasks with tight stoppers, saponified on a boiling water bath, cooled with ice water after completion of the saponification, the acetic acid was distilled and determined by titration as usual. Since the solvent dioxane was used in this method and the saponification was carried out on a boiling water bath, the procedure became simple and the time required for an analysis was shortened regardless of the differences in combined form of acetyl group.
