Description

Various mixtures of phenols dissolved in acetone and chromic anhydride were found to give a well resolved NMR spectra of hydroxyl protons for each components.
The absorptions of these hydroxyl protons appear in the region of 7.70 to 8.10 ppm and are free from the interference due to aromatic proton adsorption.
The separation of hydroxyl protons of each isomer is over 0.50 ppm for nitrophenols, 0.37 ppm for naphthols, 0.03 ppm for cresols and xylenols and is sufficient for the determination of phenol mixtures.
