Abstract

Manganese in high manganese steel and ferromanganese was rapidly and precisely determined by a differential spectrophotometric method.<BR>Measurements at wave length 554 mμ were suitable to aviod the absorption of chromic acid and a solution, containing about l419mg of manganese in 250 ml, was suitable as the reference.<BR>Coloration of permanganate ion in the sample solution was made in 0.20.4 M sulfuric acid in the presence of phosphoric acid. This could be properly carried by boiling the sample solution for one minute and fifteen seconds after an addition of silver nitrate catalyst and ammonium persulfate.<BR>This color of permanganate ion was stable at least for an hour at room temperature.
