Description
One of anchors suggested in the previous report that the kinetic energy of the momentum of raindrops was more important for soil erosion than mere amount of rain.
During two years, 1947 at Fukuoka and 1948 at Tokyo, we collected about sixty thousand raindrops on twenty five rains and measured their size by a improved absorption method.
The frequency distribution of the drop size was calu culated on each instant collection and there is a distinct and very interesting relation between types of distribution and intensities. i. e. when the intensity increases, the size of large drops becomes greater, and small droplets increase in number against our expection.
The relation between intensities and largest dropsize of instant collections in various rains is characterized according to rainfall types.
The mean distribution curve of drop-size frequency about thirty thousand drops collected at Fukuoka shows the mode at the smallest size (0.2-0.3mm in radius), and the larger, the less. Maximum one is 2.8mm in radius.
