We measured the concentration of urea, creatinine and uric acid in edema fluid and serum during hemodialysis and 18 hours after hemodialysis. The concentrations of these solutes in serum were 15-17% lower than in the edema fluid after hemodialysis, but 18 hours after hemodialysis, the concentrations in serum were the same as those in edema fluid. We concluded that the removal of these solutes from the extra-cellular space was delayed during hemodialysis. To evaluate the dialysis efficacy, the serum concentration obtained at 18 hours after hemodialysis (next day) may be preferable.
