Description
Background : Mammary spindle-cell adenomyoepithelioma (AME) is rare, characterized by biphasic epithelial and myoepithelial cell proliferation. We report the cytology of one such rare case.
Case : A 52-year-old woman seen for abnormal right nipple discharge was found in ultrasonography to have a 25×20 mm cystic lesion partly containing a solid mass. Imprint cytology yielded cohesive cell clusters of epithelial and myoepithelial spindle cells with occasional intranuclear cytoplasmic inclusions.
Conclusion : AME presents differently histologically. Cytologically, epithelial and myoepithelial spindle cell patterns and intranuclear cytoplasmic inclusions are the key to accurately diagnosing these cases.
