Description

A new intertidal species of hermit crab of the genus Pagurus, P. spina is described and illustrated on the basis of one male and two female specimens from Miyako, on the Pacific coast of northeastern Honshu, Japan. The new species apparently resembles P. lanuginosus De Haan, 1849, also from Japan, but shows differences in the morphology of the chelipeds, armature of the anterior lobe of sternite of the third pereopods, and coloration.
