Abstract

In order to determine the ileal amino acid digestibility of brown rice of Fukuhibiki (experiment 1) and Momiroman (experiment 2), rice cultivar for grain feed, we conducted two experiments. A corn-cornstarch basal diet and two diet in which corn or rice were incorporated into the basal diet at the expense of cornstarch, were fed to five pigs that were fitted with a ileocecal cannula. The both brown rice, Fukuhibiki and Momiroman, had less leucine and alanine than the corn, respectively. The arginine in the brown rice, both Fukuhibiki and Momiroman, is higher than that in corn. The ileal digestibility of all amino acids of Fukuhibiki were not differ from corn in experiment 1 (P>0.05). The ileal digestibility of isoleucine, leucine, phenylalanine, valine, aspartic acid and tyrosine of Momiroman were lower than that of corn in experiment 2 (P<0.05). Whereas the average of ileal digestibility of non essential amino acids of Momiroman were not differ from that of corn, the average of ileal digestibility of essential amino acids and all amino acids were lower than that of corn (P<0.05). Therefore, these results suggest that when we use rice as feed ingredient, both amino acid content and ileal amino acid digestibility of each rice cultivar require consideration.
