Description

Three breeding Japanese Black cows showed inappetence and diarrhea and died 2 days after feeding of Mulukhiyya with seeds, and autopsy revealed endcardiac petechiae and epicardiac hemorrhage. Histopathologically, remarkable hyperemia and hemorrhage in the endcardium, hemosiderosis in the spleen and congestion in the liver were observed. By thin layer chromatography, strophanthidin was detected from the seeds and basic extract (Stas-Otto method) of the haert of dead cases, and 2 of 3 mice injected with ethanol extract of the seeds died.
