Abstract

A follow-up study was made with 44 canine cases of anterior cruciate ligament rupture, after treating with the Yamaguchi University (YU) method. The cases were of 37 dogs including Chihauhau (2.5 kg) and Napolitan Mastiff (71 kg). The YU method, being different from the Over-the-Top technique, (1) with retrograde passage of the fascial graft, (2) without arthrotomy and (3) with the fascial graft including no part of the patella, was shown to be useful without significant surgical invasion, and the results were satisfactory or excellent in 41 of 44 (93.2%) cases while good in 3 (6.8%) cases requiring about 6 months for normal walking. No recurrence was recognized.
