Abstract
Growing Performance and blood components were periodically examined in Japanese black cattle grouped in female controls, steer controls, vitamin AD3E injected steers and vitamin AD3E feed-supplemented steers. Serum level of retinol was significantly higher in AD3E (61.7μg/dl) supplemented steers than the others after fattening for 5 months. Positive and negative correlations between serum retinol levels and daily gain were seen at early and mid-stages of fattening, respectively. Serum thyroid hormone levels (T4, T3) showing a positive correlation with daily gain at early stage, gradually decreased with fattening.Serum levels of retinol at mldstage and of T3 at later stage were negatively correlated with carcass merit, i.e. BMS and BCS.
