Description

In June, 1975, about fifty mites were collected from a male Maltese dog bred in Tokyo and identified morphologically as the tropical rat mite, Ornithonyssus bacoti (HIRST, 1913). The dog suffered from intense itching and small eruptions were formed in bitten foci. The mites might have come from house rats. They infested the dog owner's family in addition.
