説明

Larvae of four species of Japanese spider crabs, Phalangipus hystrix (MIERS), Hyastenus elogatus ORTMANN, Doclea ovis (HERBST), and Pisoides ortmanni (BALSS) (Majidae, Pisinae) were reared in the laboratory, from hatching to the last zoeal stage or megalopa stage. They were fed Artemia salina (L.) nauplii, and passed through only two zoeal stages before one megalopa stage. Their larvae are described and illustrated, and compared with descriptions of pisinid crab larvae in the literature. In zoeal stages, eleven pisinid species may be distiguished from one another by the type of telson and endopodial setations on maxilla I and maxilliped II. The Pisinae can mainly be distinguished from the Majinae by the presence of the type A_3 antenna II, and from the Acanthonychinae by bearing the outer seta on the last endopodial segment of maxilliped I. The zoeae of Pisoides ortmanni show certain morphological resemblance with those of the genus Pugettia of Acanthonychinae in the shape of outer process on the last endopodial segment of maxilliped I, setations of endopodial maxilla I and inner lobe of coxal endite of maxilla II. Differences of megalopae among eight species of Pisinae can be observed in the number of segment of antennal flagellum and the setation of mandibular palp, as well as in shapes of rostral spine and basal segment of antennal peduncle.
