説明

A feeding experiment was conducted to examine the effect of body size on food utilization and growth in hatchery-reared silver sea bream, Sparus sarba. Four different size-groups (23, 43, 69 and 127g) of fish of the same age (13-month-old) were reared for a period of 30 days at 22.8±0.9°C. Fish were fed twice a day to satiation on commercial pellets. Regression analysis suggested that the model best fitting the relationship between absolute growth of fish and time was of the form W=aebt where W is body weight (g), t is time (days) and a and b are constants. As fish grew, the weight of food they consumed relative to their body weight decreased although the absolute weight consumed increased. The relationship between food consumption F (g) and body weight W (g) could be described by the equation F=0.1850 W0.5236. The relationship between relative food intake FI (% body weight/day) and body size W (g) could be described by the equation FI=18.4187 W-0.4754. Specific growth rate decreased as the fish increased in size and the relationship between growth rate G (% body weight/day) and body size W (g) could be described by the equation G=10.3529W-0.4453. The relationship between body weight W (g) and total length L (cm) could be described by the equation W=0.0224 L3.0091.
