In order to know the nutrient uptake by the sterile Ulva pertusa and their interaction to the bacterial communities, some culture experiments of the Ulva were carried out in a room condition of 24±1°C and about 4, 000lux (15L: 9D) .
Average uptake rates of the Ulva in the light period on nitrate-N, ammonia-N, total phosphates, and inorganic phosphate were 0.66, 0. 32, 0.02, and 0.01μg-at⋅l-1⋅cm-2⋅h-1, respectively. From those results, it might be assumed that the Ulva uptakes are mainly nitrate-N and ammonia-N, but not so much of phosphate-N and total phosphates.
Pseudomonas spp, were dominant genus in both attached and free bacterial communities. Population growth of Vibrio spp. were inhibited by the inoculation of the Ulva. On the other hand, population growth of Flavobacterium spp. were promoted by the inoculation of the Ulva.
It is suggested that the sterile Ulva used in this experiments is a suitable specied for purifying the water in the coastal fish farms.
