Description

Karyomorphological observations of two diploid-species of Camellia, C. irrawadielesis and C. sinensis var. sinelesis, were made. They showed some degree of intraspecific variation of their karyotypes, even though each species had its own major karyotype. The comparison of the major karyotypes indicated that Camellia irrawadiensis and C.sileensis var. sileensis had less differences following systematic treatments had sug-gested, although the former species did not have any sat-chrompsome and the latter species had sat-chromosomes. Gradual decrease in size from the longest to the shortest chromosomes was demon-strated in all the karyotypes observed. A11 the clones of the two species studied showed karyotypic heteromorphology and heteromorphic homologous chromosomes.
