説明

The effect of induction of mutations for grain size by recurrent treatments with ethylenimine (EI) was studied. The 50% decrease in survival of M1 seedlings was observed at 0.8-1.0% of EI concentration. This results indicated that the used material GAISENMOCHI (Line no. E 39) had a relatively lower EI sensitivity. The values of variance in all the treated populations for the length and breadth of grain did not increase significantly compared with those of the non-treated populations. But, for the mean values, there were significant differences arnong them. This might be expected from the frequency distribution grapns. When the net dist, ance of mean values between generations was calculated, it showed the decreasing tendency both in the length and breadth of grain as generation goes on. And there were high correlations between the length and breadth of grain in almosttreated populations. These results suggested that the grain size might tend to get smaller by EI treatment. But in the correlation distribution graphs, large or round grain mutants which varied over the limited range of variation for both characteristics were found, therefore, the possibility of selection to plus and minus directions independently for the length and breadth of grain was supposed. The frequency of aberrants showed higher values in the populations after second and third cycles of recurrent EI treatments than in those of single treatment. So, it was expected that the recurrent treatment method with EI seemed to be effective for accumulation and induction of grain size mutations.
