Description

We studied the combination therapy of cardoplatin (CBDCA) and UFT for head and neck cancer. It was given to five patients for adjuvant after first line therapy and also given to 7 evaluable patients of advanced head and neck cancer to achieve better quality of life. UFT (600mg/day) was given p. o. from dayl to day 14, and CBDCA (350mg/m2) was given i. v. at day 7. The second course was done after 2 weeks for evaluable patients and after 4 weeks for patients of adjuvant therapy. Response rates were 43% including 2 cases of CR. Bone mallow toxicity was obseved in three patients who showed decrease of numbers of WBC and PLT. Other toxicities including nausea and vomit were mild. We observed no side effects with the patients of adjuveat therapy. Some patients who were relieved pain caused by tumor after the chemotherapy seemed to incease quality of life.<br>We conclude that the combination with CBDCA and UFT that can be given to outpatients is useful for adjuvant chemotherapy or salvage chemotherapy to increase the quality of life.
