Description
The piston rings easily make elastic-deformation with a very small measuring pressure. Usually, the flatness and roundness can be measured by optical method. But this method is very complex and the measuring time is very long. Now, it is found that the profile of the piston ring can be easily measured by using the grid circuit of vacuum tubes and the ordinary micrometer. When the micrometer spindle is contacted to the piston ring, the grid circuit is closed by the piston ring and spindle. The contact point is exactly indicated by the red lamp which is inserted in the plate circuit, and the length is measured by the division of the thimble. Therefore, the grid circuit has very high resistance and its current is negligible small. So the spindle and the works are not consumed by the contact current and have no error caused by the spark current before contact. And this method is applicable to the spring, or paper etc.which can not be measured by mechanical instruments due to the measuring pressure.
