Abstract
The cutting performances of high-speed-steel tool materials are subjected to various treatments such as austemper, nitronized-treatment after austemper, subzero-treatment after austemper, and banite hardening.<BR>Hardness of high-speed-steel materials at high temperatures is measured and the behaviors of tool failure are discussed.<BR>It is found out that heat-treatments and surface-treatments of tool materials are effective in improving the cutting performances, and the extent of the effect depends upon the grades of tool materials.
