Description

We measured serum kreatine kinase (CK) activity, isozyme composition (CK-MB), GOT and LDH of sixteen adult patients in two groups; the first group included patients who underwent elective operation for oesophageal cancer and the second group included patients who suffered from acute myocardial infarction (AMI).
In patients with AMI, serum GOT activity exceeded the normal range within 6 to 12 hours following the onset of chest pain; peak GOT levels were reached in 12 to 24 hours after onset of infarction and fell to normal levels within 3 to 4 days.
Serum CK and CK-MB activities showed almost the same pattern, however, LDH activity rose and fell more slowly than serum GOT and CK, and exceeded the normal range within 24 to 48 hours after onset of chest pain and it did not recover to the normal level within 4 days after onset of infarction.
In postoperative patients, all enzyme activities elevated immediately after operation. The peak levels of CK and CK-MB activities were reached in 12 to 36 hours after operation, however, they were much less than those of patients with AMI. Serum GOT and LDH activities were almost unchanged until the third postperative day.
