Abstract

Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the relationship between stress urinary incontinence and the inner unit in women and to calculate the degree of detection of stress urinary incontinence in the inner unit.

Subjects and Methods: The subjects comprised 101 middle-aged and elderly women. They were grouped into a urinary incontinence group and non-urinary incontinence group in a question paper table. The grip strength was measured and the 30-second chair-stand test was performed. The transverse abdominal muscle thickness, multifidus cross-sectional area, and pelvic floor elevation were measured using a diagnostic imaging device.

Results: All muscle measurements were significantly lower in the urinary incontinence group than in the non-urinary incontinence group during simultaneous contraction and resistance movements. Using urinary incontinence as the dependent variable, the outcome determinant identified by logistic regression analysis was the resistance movement of pelvic floor elevation.

Discussion: The risk of stress urinary incontinence increases as the upper transverse abdominal muscle thickness, multifidus cross-sectional area, and pelvic floor elevation decrease. Pelvic floor elevation exceeding the amount that occurs at the time of the resistance movement indicates an extremely low likelihood of urinary incontinence; a value of ≥4.88 mm is suggested according to the present study.
