説明

Equations have been developed for estimating 24-hour urinary sodium (24hUNa) and potassium (24hUK) excretion from fractional urine specimens. The present study was carried out to investigate the accuracy and the reliability of these equetion in clinical applications.
Seven clinically healthy young women, aged 2223 years, were asked to collect 24-hour urine specimens including fractional specimens between 0800 and 1200h, 1200 and 1600h and 0000 and 0800h, and second morning voiding urine (SMU) for 3 days. Ninety-one (40-67 yrs) and 15 subjects (2154 yrs) were asked to collect 24-hour urine and SMU separately for single day and for 3 succesive days, respectively. The latter group repeated this procedure 4 to 6 times.
Of all fractional specimens, estimates of 24hUNa and 24hUK calculated from fractional urine between 0800 and 1200 revealed highly significant correlations with the concomitantly measured 24hUNa and 24hUK, respectively. Similar estimates from SMU were also well correlated with the measured 24hUNa ana 24hUK.
The correlation coefficient between measured 24hUNa and 24hUK and those estimated from SMU for single day were 0.668 and 0.388 for young women, and 0.531 and 0.443 for 91 subjects, respectively. The correlation coefficients were greater for the averaged values of taken on 3 succesive days 24hUNa and 24hUK and estimetes from SMU (rNa = 0.821, rk =0.590) than for single day values.
These results suggest that SMU provides a simple method for calculating estimates of 24hUNa and 24hUK and that this simple method can be applied to the extensive epidemiological studies.
