In Kyoto City the, development of supermarkets in the suburbs causes the decline of the shopping street in the traditional downtown. The purpose of this paper is to analyze customers there and discuss the problems of its decline. We employ shopping questionnaires and inquire on their address, frequency of visit, purpose of visit, and the reasons of their general preference for the downtown. Young people, students, young female workers are numerous in the area compared to housewives who prefer to shop in suburban superstores. Though young are many, their utilization ratio of shopping is not high.
